Trelleborg Tires Expands Production Capacity by twenty percent at Spartanburg Facility Emphasizing Local-for-Local Business Strategy
Spartanburg, U.S. — In a move that underscores the efficacy of a local-for-local business model, Trelleborg Tires has announced a significant 20% increase in production capacity at its Spartanburg facility. This expansion is part of the company’s strategy to align closely with market demands and bolster its presence in the off-highway tire sector.
Spanning 40,000 square meters, the Spartanburg site exemplifies how localized production can enhance market responsiveness and drive evolution within the tire industry. This approach not only caters to specific regional needs but also offers resilience against global supply chain disruptions by minimizing distances from customers, reducing import duties, and cutting logistical expenses.
The facility's upgrade comes at a pivotal time as the North America agricultural tires market continues to grow robustly. Valued at over 930 million USD in 2023, the market is projected to reach 1.3 billion USD by 2030. This growth is fueled by trends like progressive mechanization in agriculture, larger farm operations, and shorter replacement cycles.
Since its establishment in the U.S. in 2015, Trelleborg Tires has tailored its products to meet the distinct demands of American farmers, focusing on durability and capability under heavy loads on wider and harder terrains. The company has enhanced its range of flotation tires, innovated production processes, and improved customer benefits to meet these specific needs.
“We continuously evaluate what the market expects from us, adjusting our product offerings and manufacturing processes accordingly,” said Marco D’Angelo, Vice President of Manufacturing at Yokohama TWS. “This strategic focus has allowed us to significantly boost our production capacity and reinforce our commitment to the North American market.”
The Spartanburg plant is noted for its high level of automation, making it one of the most technologically advanced in the agricultural tire industry. This includes cutting-edge machine automation and process control at every production stage, from the preparation of semi-finished products to tire curing, which ensures optimal performance and minimal environmental impact.
Moreover, the plant's design incorporates principles of lean manufacturing to optimize efficiency and reduce material handling. “Our facilities adapt and evolve based on market demands. While our central R&D efforts support our global initiatives, our local R&D managers ensure that we remain deeply connected to our regional markets and respond effectively to our customers’ needs,” added D’Angelo.
This strategic expansion by Trelleborg Tires not only signifies a substantial enhancement in production capabilities but also reaffirms the company’s dedication to sustainable practices and local economic support through reduced environmental impact and enhanced local employment.
